Now that the last note has been played, the lights taken down and the stages removed, Newbury Spring Festival manager Zoe Seenan looks back at some of the highlights from nearly fifty different Festival events
“Our audiences were unanimous in their praise for Ensemble Berlin and for the opening concert with Pinchas Zuckerman. But it is almost impossible to separate so many wonderful performances – people loved the extraordinary quality of Anoushka Shankar and the savage wit of Kit and the Widow. The recital by Rosalind Plowright will live in the memory for many of our audience and the visit of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra was unforgettable for the sheer power and volume of such a large ensemble’.
‘We’re delighted that ticket sales were up 7% on last year and more than half our performances sold out completely – quite astonishing in a difficult economic climate. We were also very delighted with the success of the new Free Ticket Scheme for 16 to 30 year olds.
As ever we remain extremely grateful to everyone who supported the Festival this year - our funders and sponsors, Friends of the festival and everyone who attended concerts. Your support has been outstanding.
Plans for the next Festival are already well underway and the dates for the 2011 Festival are 7 – 21 May, so do watch this space for further news.”
