Shostakovich Symphony No 5

One of Russia’s finest orchestras joins forces with Robertas Lozinskis – winner of the 2015 Sheepdrove Piano Competition – for an evening of Russian favourites.

The MSSO is one of the oldest symphony orchestras in Russia. Its partnership with Pavel Kogan has earned it an enviable reputation for artistic excellence.

The programme this evening brings together Shostakovich’s melodic, vibrant, rousing Festive Overture, Rachmaninov’s enduringly popular Piano Concerto No 2, and Shostakovich’s best-known orchestral work, the immensely powerful Symphony No 5.

This UK tour by the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
