Central to Leon McCawley’s recital tonight are works by Chopin, to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth, and include his Sonata in B flat minor – a composition known for its weighty opening chords, the fireworks of its second movement Scherzo, the brooding Marche funèbre and the turbulence of the Presto finale.
Leon McCawley is firmly established as one of England’s finest young pianists. Championing core classical repertoire together with the unknown, his CD releases have been impressing critics far and wide. He can be heard again in the festival with the Emperor Quartet on 17 May.
“Leon McCawley, a brilliant soloist...” Paul Driver, Times Online
