Multi award-winning jazz outfit Empirical pays tribute to Eric Dolphy’s musical legacy through its performances of exciting original compositions and new arrangements of his musical works including tunes from his seminal album, Out To Lunch. Eric Allan Dolphy (1928-1964) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, flautist, and bass clarinettist.
In May 2008 Empirical won the Ensemble of the Year prize at the annual Parliamentary Jazz Awards; just one in a succession of accolades the band has amassed. Empirical’s eponymously-titled debut album – produced by Courtney Pine and released on his Destin-E label in 2007 – was voted Jazzwise magazine’s Album of the Year and also named Mojo magazine’s Jazz Album of the Year. Not to be missed.
“Empirical could turn out to be one of the most important bands in UK jazz history” Jazzwise
