Established in 1943 the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra managed to flourish through a turbulent period in Russia’s history, giving it a strong sense of destiny, and under Pavel Kogan’s leadership since 1989 the orchestra has toured across the globe.
Equally renowned as a composer and pianist, Rachmaninov dazzled the world with his immensely popular Piano Concerto in C minor, performed here by the acclaimed Ukranian pianist Igor Tchetuev. Tonight’s all-Russian programme ends with one of Rimsky Korsakov’s most colourful and compelling works, Scheherezade.
