The Morriston Orpheus Choir was formed in 1935 by Ivor E Sims and today enjoys an international reputation as a leading exponent of male choral singing. Within the United Kingdom the choir is in constant demand, performing at over 25 venues every year. The choir will be joined in Newbury by highly acclaimed Welsh tenor Andrew Rees. Having studied at the Royal Northern College and in Wales, Andrew went on to finish his opera training in 2001 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Andrew sang in the choir of Glyndebourne Touring Opera before becoming a freelance soloist. Over the years, successive musical directors have developed and broadened the choir's repertoire and variety is now the hallmark of the choir's performances. Under the musical direction of Joy Amman Davies, the choir will be bringing to Newbury a varied programme ranging from traditional Welsh hymns such as Cwm Rhondda to lighter more modern items such as You Raise Me Up.
