The Festival is delighted to welcome the RPO back to Newbury under the baton of music director Daniele Gatti, who is making a rare appearance to the provinces. Considered the foremost conductor of his generation, Maestro Gatti has galvanized the music world with his dramatic and instinctive style. The RPO perform three masterworks that lie at the very heart of the orchestral repertoire. Brahms' dark and powerful Tragic Overture precedes his magnificent Violin Concerto played by Julian Rachlin, one of the most charismatic and exciting violinists of his generation. And what better way to end a concert than with the vitality of this great symphony, which continues the Festival's ongoing Beethoven cycle.
