Keston Sutherland
Poetry Reading
Tuesday 13 May & Tuesday 20 May
As part of Keston Sutherland's residency, the Festival has
commissioned him to write a new poem to commemorate the
90th anniversary of the armistice. As a poet with a particular
interest in global conflict, this poem will pay careful homage to the
valiance, endurance and suffering of British men and women
during the First World War. Keston will also read a selection of
poems by Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon and other war poets
and will reflect on the British cultural inheritance of modernism
and the arts of the war period.
Due to the popularity of Festival events at Sandham Memorial
Chapel, there will be four performances of this event. This unique
venue is renowned for its collection of Stanley Spencer murals
depicting the painter's response to the First World War.
