Sheepdrove is an organic mixed farm with an operationally net zero carbon “green building” powered entirely by 100% renewable energy (solar, wind and geo) which was opened by HM King Charles, III, then HRH Prince of Wales, in 2004.
Recitals take place in The Oak Room, a contemporary long barn constructed with the curved timbers of a traditional cruck frame set with a twenty acre estate of scenic gardens and naturalistic grounds that include an aromatic herb garden, ancient oak woodland and a long lake with pontoon and boathouse. Sheepdrove’s tranquil woodland burial ground sits high on the windswept chalk downland at the cross roads of four drovers’ ridgeways and offers a peaceful setting for a green funeral. Juliet and Peter Kindersley, founders of innovative information publisher DK, converted Sheepdrove to organic over a quarter of a century ago, their interest driven by a desire to set up a model for sustainable and nature-friendly agriculture and a passionate concern for animal welfare. The farm is renowned for its exceptional conservation work and habitat creation for birds and other wildlife.
