When Lights are Low

Wednesday 21 May

Claire Martin   vocals
Richard Rodney Bennett   piano

The first lady of British jazz Claire Martin returns to the Festival with her regular musical partner, the ever versatile and distinguished pianist and composer Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, with whom she has just released her most recent album When Lights are Low. Claire is five times winner of Best Vocalist at the British Jazz Awards and together they perform stylish reworkings of much-loved jazz standards and contemporary classics from icons such as Joni Mitchell and Elvis Costello.

Sir Richard's polished piano accompaniment and suave understated delivery provide the perfect foil to the smoky honey of Claire Martin's voice. Expect a sparkling evening's entertainment from two great performers who clearly are passionate about jazz.
