As joint winner of the 2007 Landor Records competition, cellist James Barralet is currently recording his debut solo CD. He has performed at many major venues and twice as soloist with the Basel Symphony Orchestra. James' interest in Indian music stems from a six month teaching visit to the Mathieson Music School in Calcutta in 1998 where he studied north Indian classical music. The cello's tone is well suited to Indian music and James will be joined by Sankar Chowdhury on the tabla. Together they will perform Bhajans by Bhimsen Joshi and folk tunes by Rabindranath Tagore, interspersed with pieces by western composers influenced by Indian music in this visually and musically stimulating concert.
