DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nPlease note today’s pianist has changed since going to print with our Festival Guide.\nAhead of his evening performance at St Nicolas Church\, renowned pianist Barry Douglas will give a public masterclass to local piano students. The audience are encouraged to come and listen as Barry works with and encourages these promising youngsters. \nAs part of the Festival’s education programme Masterclass participation is open to all local school-aged pupils studying the piano. SUMMARY:Festival Evensong
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nWe’re delighted to welcome the girls of Downe House School to sing this traditional afternoon service of Evensong\, to include works specially commissioned for the choir from Malcolm Archer and Bob Chilcott. \nDowne House has a strong choral tradition\, currently housing six main choirs\, two of which have recently won national awards at the Barnardo’s National Choral Competition. \nEvensong is held at many cathedrals and churches and provides a restful\, peaceful and contemplative time at the even point of the day\, between the end of the working day and night-time. \nAnyone can attend Choral Evensong: people of any faith or none\, everyone is welcome.\n \n  \n\n\n\n\nPerformers\nDr Charlotte Exon director of music Downe House School \n  \nTickets\nFree\, no ticket required \n

SUMMARY:Estonian Symphony Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nPlease note there is a change of soloist since going to print with our Festival Guide.\nWe’re delighted to welcome the Estonian Symphony Orchestra to the Festival. They open tonight’s concert with the hypnotic Benjamin Britten Cantus in Memoriam\, written by their fellow countryman Arvo Pärt in 1977. \nBarry Douglas has established a major international career since winning the Gold Medal at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition\, Moscow.
