SUMMARY:The Finn Collinson Band
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nThe Finn Collinson Band features three of English folk’s leading virtuosos of their respective instruments\, shaking up traditional tunes\, baroque melodies and original compositions. A captivating and wonderfully varied live show offers a respectful eye on the past\, with a firm grounding in the present. \nAlthough fundamentally folk in approach\, Finn often draws on elements of early music to sculpt his distinctive sound. Traditional dance tunes meet melodies by the likes of Purcell and Jacob Van Eyck\, shaken up in striking new arrangements and brought up to date with Finn’s own compositions and trademark recorder style. \n“Finn is regarded as a leading exponent of the recorder\, and deservedly so. Hearing it played as well as it is here\, makes me wonder why it’s not heard more in folk music.” Folking \nSponsored by The Headley Trust \n\n\n\n\nPerformers\nFinn Collinson recorders\nArchie Churchill-Moss guitar\, diatonic accordion\nEvan Carson bodhran\, percussion \nTickets\n£15\n(includes £1.25 Corn Exchange booking fee per ticket)\nSeries ticket for all 6 concerts £75 \n

SUMMARY:The Telling
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nInto the Melting Pot\nSpain\, 1492: on her final night in Seville\, a Jewish woman\, played by Suzanne Ahmet\, tunes into a community of stories of Jewish\, Christian and Muslim women\, their plaintive songs and lively Spanish medieval music which have the power to transcend intolerance and hatred. \nMusic and theatre collide in this fully staged stunningly lit show from The Telling\, directed by BAFTA-nominated Nicholas Renton (Mrs Gaskell’s Wives and Daughters\, Musketeers\, Lewis). Be transported back to colourful 15th-century Seville – the story of migration\, community and conflict may be set in the past but has sad resonances today – with a message of hope. \n\n“Music collides with drama and melds into something unique yet inclusive and true.” \nStage Talk Magazine \n\nSupported by\nArts Council England\nThe Shoresh Charitable Trust\nUnity Theatre \n\n\n\nPerformers\nSuzanne Ahmet actor\nPatience Tomlinson actor\nClare Norburn singer\nMaya Levy singer\nEmily Baines recorders\nGiles Lewin oud\nJoy Smith harp / percussion \nNicholas Renton director\nClare Norburn playwright\nNatalie Rowland lighting designer \nProgramme\nNani Nani ((Sephardic traditional song)\nVirgen Madre groriosa (Cantiga de Santa Maria no 340)\nLa Serena (Sephardic traditional song)\nRosas das rosas (Cantiga de Santa Maria no 10)\nSanta Maria Amar (Cantiga de Santa Maria no 7)\nInstrumental: A madre de Jesu Cristo (Cantiga de Santa Maria no 302)\nMaria Matrem (from Llibre vermell)\nLamma Bada (Andalusian/Arabic traditional song)\nInstrumental: O que diz que servir ome (Cantiga de Santa Maria no 311)\nMui Grandes noit e dia (Cantiga de Santa Maria no 57)  \nINTERVAL \nPues que tu reinna del cielo (from Cancionero de Palacio)\nLa Rosa Enflorese (Los Bibilicos cantan) (Sephardic traditional song)\nInstrumental: Por razon tenno d’obeder  (Cantiga de Santa Maria no 113)\nNoches\, noches (Sephardic traditional song)\nQuen crever na Virgen Santa (Cantiga de Santa Maria no 107)\nMartin Codax (13th-century Galician Troubadour) Ondas do Mar (from Cantigas d’Amigo – cycle of 7 songs)\nSiete Hijos Tiene Hanna (Sephardic song about the biblical story of Hanna)\nMorena me llaman (Sephardic traditional song) \nTickets\n£25\n(includes £1.25 Corn Exchange booking fee per ticket)\nFree for Under 30s \n  \n

SUMMARY:Tenebrae
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nPath of Miracles\nThe road to Santiago de Compostela is one of the world’s great pilgrimage routes; it’s also a journey through time and the spirit\, and a voyage into the timeless soul of European culture itself. For the innovative composer Joby Talbot inspiration struck “in Leon Cathedral while the sun was setting…I thought of a lux aeterna”. \nThe result was Path of Miracles: a huge\, endlessly rich choral pilgrimage to Santiago\, composed in 2005 for Nigel Short and the virtuoso voices of Tenebrae\, who now return to a work that has already become a 21st century classic. \nIt has long been Nigel’s ambition to bring the Path of Miracles to the Festival and to Douai Abbey. Candlelight\, singing from memory and an imaginative use of the Abbey’s unique architecture and acoustic will guarantee an unforgettable performance by Tenebrae at its dramatic best. \nPlease note that there will be no interval. \nSponsored by\nMr and Mrs David Bruce\nMr and Mrs Rod Chamberlain\nThe Greenwood Trust \nProgramme\nJoby Talbot Path of Miracles \n\n Roncesvalles\n Burgos\n León\n Santiago\n\nPerformers\n\n\n\nNigel Short conductor \nTickets\n£40 / £30\n(includes £1.25 Corn Exchange booking fee per ticket) \nThis event is currently SOLD OUT\, please e-mail the box office to be added to the waiting list. \n  \n
