DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the joy of singing together at a whole-day festival showcasing the best of Newbury and the surrounding area. This relaxed\, family-friendly event brings together amateur choirs across genres – classical\, gospel\, pop\, folk\, jazz and more – for a day of performance\, connection and community. \nAudiences are welcome to come and go through the day\, enjoy refreshments\, and soak up a programme full of diverse voices and inspiring leaders. A retiring collection will be taken in support of a charity (tbc). \nBig Sing Saturday is a vibrant one-day festival that honors the power of group singing and showcases the diversity of local amateur choirs from Newbury and its surrounding areas. \nThe atmosphere is friendly and inviting—it’s not a formal concert\, but rather a true festival experience where attendees can freely come and go\, savor refreshments\, and enjoy an array of choral styles and genres throughout the day. \nFor queries\, contact bigsing@mhvsvoicecoach.com \nCome and celebrate community singing – share your sound\, meet other choirs\, and be part of Newbury’s vibrant choral scene. \n  \n\nBig Sing Saturday is split into three performance sessions\, each offering a cross-section of choirs and musical styles\n\n\n\n\n\nMorning Blend\n10am-12:30pm\n\n\nUplifting choir performances to start the day\, showcasing a variety of local voices and styles.\n\n\n\n\n\nMidday Mix\n1pm-3:30pm\n\n\nA vibrant mix of choirs and genres\, perfect for a lunchtime visit and a taste of Newbury’s choral diversity.\n\n\n\n\n\nSundowner Session\n4pm-6:30pm\n\n\nGolden-hour singing to close the day in celebration\, with feel-good performances to end the festival on a high.\n\n\n\n\nAt the start of each session\, there will be a fun\, uplifting group warm-up\, giving choirs and audiences alike the opportunity to sing together and share in the joy of collective music-making.\n\n  \nThe Choirs \nWe are proud to showcase a diverse programme of local choirs.:\n\n\n\n\n\nVoxFresh is a professional and exciting singing group where young vocalists can discover their full potential through contemporary music.\n\n\n \nSing For Fun is exactly what it sounds like! We sing a joyful mix of pop\, rock and musical theatre.\n\n\n \nCromwell Singers are a choir with approximately 50 members that have been performing a wide repertoire since 1976.\n\n\n \nThe choir\, formally called ‘The Kingsclere Choral Society’\, was formed in the 1922. They perform a wide range of music: from Bach to Beatles!\n\n\n \nVoxSonix is all about community singing with each group defining its own journey with song choices\, opportunities\, and teaching pace.\n\n\n \nHarmony InSpires is an award-winning women’s a cappella chorus singing four-part harmony in a sparkling mix of musical theatre\, pop favourites\, and heartfelt ballads.\n\n\n \nSing Louder began January 2022 and has flourished into a wonderful choir. Performing all kinds of music from modern pop\, musical theatre to old classics. Working on two part and SAB pieces.\n\n\n \n\nReading Male Voice Choir has celebrated its 55th year. \nSinging nationally & Internationally\, in the spring of 2025\, RMVC were announced as winners of a What’s on Reading Cultural Award – Champion of Reading. This was to celebrate our rich history of support of local and national charities and representing Reading on the national and international stage for over the last 50 years.\n\n\n\n \nSoul Reason is choir with groove and heart!\nOur mission is to bring people together through the power of music\, fostering a sense of community and joy. We believe in the transformative power of singing\, not only for individual wellbeing but also for creating a collective spirit that resonates beyond our rehearsals and performances.\n\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Jess Gillam is a celebrated saxophonist and presenter. With her electrifying performances\, vibrant stage presence and magnetic personality\, the ‘uniquely mercurial’ (The Times) Jess has been invited to play on the world’s major stages since becoming the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall\, London. Equally at home behind the microphone\, Jess’ award-winning weekly show\, This Classical Life\, on BBC Radio 3 is now in its seventh season. \nJess will be working with local young saxophone players who will have the opportunity to learn from her directly. Any saxophonists (Grade 5+) who might like to take part in the masterclass should contact the Festival office by 1 March 2026. \nMembers of the public may watch the masterclass for free – a ticket is required. \nJess Gillam will be performing with her Trio at the Corn Exchange in the evening of 16 May. \nPerformers\nJess Gillam saxophone \n\n

SUMMARY:Philharmonia Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Leeds International Piano Competition winner\, and BBC New Generation Artist 2023-25\, Alim Beisembayev made his debut at the BBC Proms with the Sinfonia of London. Tonight he joins the Philharmonia Orchestra who celebrate their 80th Anniversary with rising star conductor Adam Hickox. \nBeethoven’s 4th Piano Concerto is possibly the most popular\, and indeed the most lyrical of the series\, which the Festival has been featuring over the past few years\, and will be preceded by Mendelssohn’s concert overture which was inspired by Goethe’s poem of the same name.
