Sponsored by Dreweatts Matilda Lloyd Wednesday 10 May Praised for her “beauty of sound” by Seen&Heard International, Matilda Lloyd presents a programme that explores the singing voice of the trumpet. Matilda was the winner of the 2014 BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass Final, and in 2016, made her BBC Proms solo debut in the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Philharmonic. In this programme, drawing from her debut CD on the Chandos Records label ‘Casta Diva’, Matilda demonstrates the full emotional range of the trumpet through vocal works spanning 6 centuries, from Hildegard von Bingen’s antiphons to the expressive bel canto style of Italian opera. Highlights include Rossini’s Prelude , Theme and Variations , which features the flugelhorn, and two songs by Pauline Viardot paired with a set of variations on one of her most famous roles: Bellini’s Norma. © Benjamin Ealovega Matilda Lloyd trumpet Richard Gowers piano Sponsored by The Headley Trust Corn Exchange Newbury RG14 5BD 12.30pm (ends approx 1.30pm) £13.25 Recital only (series ticket for all 6 lunchtime recitals £66.25) (includes £1.25 Corn Exchange booking fee per ticket) © Alessandro Tear BOOK NOW BOOK NOW
