In today’s programme we’ll hear one of Mozart’s most heartfelt, despairing and anguished pieces, the String Quintet in G minor followed by Brahms String Quintet No. 2 in G major the last movement of which is influenced by traditional folk tunes, reminiscent of his Hungarian Dances composed some ten years previously. It is made up of some of the leading brass players from London’s symphony orchestras, the two opera houses and London’s recording and light music scene. Formed with the aim of promoting virtuosic brass chamber music of the highest level through concerts, recordings and educational projects, their performances include: BBC Radio 3 In-Tune (Live broadcasts), recitals at St Johnʼs Smiths Square, Buxton Festival, The Northern Aldborough Festival, Cuivres en Dombes, Santa Fiora Musica, San Quirico d’Orcia and Tromsøʼs Nordlysfestivalen. This evening’s programme from England and Germany contrasts popular brass arrangements of music by Handel, Haydn, and Beethoven alongside lighter works by The Beatles, The Kinks and Noel Coward.
