This will include a new commission being written specially for the band to perform at this concert by Newbury-based composer Florence Anna Maunders. The concert theme of Brass Rejoicing takes inspiration from Edward Gregson’s masterpiece The World Rejoicing: Symphonic Variations on a Lutheran Chorale , which will form part of tonight’s performance and will be performed by the band at the 2023 British Open Spring Festival in Blackpool. Come along to celebrate all that is good about the sound of a brass band. With two singers and three instrumentalists, Ceruleo have devised a programme that runs the gamut of restoration English music, encompassing some of Purcell’s most famous pieces alongside his lesser known works and those by John Blow and John Eccles. The programme celebrates the first female stars of the English stage, the rich instrumental textures of the period and the Italian and French influences on this incredible music.
