None of these events could happen without the support of our generous sponsors and funders, to whomwe are hugely grateful. 13 May Masterclass with Freddy Kempf Ahead of his evening performance at St Nicolas Church (see page 29), Freddy Kempf will give a public masterclass to local piano students. Masterclass participation is open to all local school-aged pupils studying the piano. Anyone interested in taking part in the masterclass should contact Jane Pickering at the Festival office before the end of March 2023. 13 May Razzamataz Theatre School Come and see Razzamataz Newbury for this free showcase performance, and experience a range of styles from classic West End musical theatre to funky street dance and pop singing. (see page 26 for more details). Please note this is an outside event and will be weather dependant. 16 May Ballet Central Schools, dance classes and ballet companies are invited to attend this free Open Company Class between 3 and 4pm at the Corn Exchange. There’ll be chance to learn more about the evening performance (see page 38), and opportunity to ask the dancers questions about dance and performance. Spring 2023 Ferio Saxophone Quartet The Ferio Saxophone Quartet will be visiting three local schools in the early spring of 2023. The Quartet are experienced at delivering interactive and engaging workshops to inspire and motivate the next generation of musicians. This is in addition to the Quartet’s performance on 9 May (see page 14). 7 May Wantage Band Enjoy an afternoon of free music in the beautiful surroundings of Victoria Park with local national championshipWantage Band. The band will be performing a variety of popular works suitable for all the family to enjoy. (See page 6) 11 May Monks of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery There will be an afternoon schools workshop with the monks of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in the Corn Exchange. The session will give an introduction to the Monastery and the life of a monk. It will also be a chance to explore the monastic instruments which will feature in their evening performance the same day (see page 19). The monks will also return in June to visit three local primary schools. The Festival is committed to music education for children and the community. In 2023 school children are invited to attend a number of performances and join in with a variety of workshops completely free of charge, with some events open to people of all ages.
