Andrei Ioniță, who won the Gold Medal at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition, is one of the most admired cellists of his generation, described by The Times as “one of the most exciting cellists to have emerged for a decade”. He makes a welcome return to the Festival with London Philharmonic Orchestra in Dvořák’s ever-popular Cello Concerto under the baton of Jonathan Bloxham.
Schumann’s Second Symphony, a journey from tragedy to triumph, includes one of the greatest movements of his entire output, the sublime Adagio Espressivo.
