Directed by prize-winning violinist, Akiko Ono, the Maiastra String Quintet is the result of a recent course run by The Aidan Woodcock Charitable Trust, which provides opportunities for emerging and talented young professionals who are hoping to make chamber music a major part of their career.
In today’s programme we’ll hear one of Mozart’s most heartfelt, despairing and anguished pieces, the String Quintet in G minor followed by Brahms String Quintet No. 2 in G major the last movement of which is influenced by traditional folk tunes, reminiscent of his Hungarian Dances composed some ten years previously.
