A tribute to Dizzy Gillespie
Join members of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra for an evening showcasing some of the best emerging UK Jazz talent. This sextet plays the music of jazz icon Dizzy Gillespie, directed by Mark Armstrong.
John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie is a jazz icon. An epochal trumpeter, bandleader, composer, educator and singer, his combination of musicianship, showmanship, and wit defined the new sound of 1940s bebop. Together with Charlie Parker, this unique approach brought harmonic and rhythmic complexity previously unheard in jazz.
