THE NEWBURY MONOPOLY ‘BIG REVEAL’

Pass GO and collect the brand-new official MONOPOLY: Newbury Edition game, which hit the shops this morning.

The board showcases the great and good of the Berkshire market town – from Newbury Racecourse to Donnington Castle.

And we get to star in it too!

Newbury Spring Festival features on a pink square!

monopoly square“We have been wonderfully spoiled for choice putting this game together,” says John Keen-Tomlinson from Winning Moves UK, who have produced the board under license from Hasbro, a leading toy and game company.

In all 30+ Newbury landmarks are honoured on the board, with Donnington Castle getting to land on the top ranking space, Mayfair, from the classic MONOPOLY original. On ‘Old Kent Road’, at the other end of the board, is Greenham Common. Inbetween sees Highclere Castle, Newbury Racecourse, Parkway and Victoria Park amongst the other 30+ Newbury landmarks featuring in the game.

Earlier this year it was announced that Newbury is getting its very own official version of the world’s most popular board game. At the time, the public was invited to send in suggestions for landmarks and organisations to feature in the game.

John Keen-Tomlinson, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, adds: “The response from the public has been overwhelming. A very big thank you to everyone who sent in nominations.”

The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Nigel Foot, says: “Newbury is delighted to now have its very own MONOPOLY game and to be associated with such a world famous Brand is great for the town”.

Four charities also Pass GO. They are :Swings and Smiles, Eight Bells, Time to Talk and Newbury Soup Kitchen, whose Meryl Praill says: “We’re delighted to be on the board.”

Newbury Soup Kitchen – which was set up in 2017 and has provided approximately 30,000 meals to local people since then – gets to feature on a Community Chest space in one of the most populated parts of the board, in the orange section of the game, mirroring its current much in demand standing in the town.

Ms Praill, who is Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the charity, adds: “Being in such a busy part of the board is apt. as we are the centre of our community. Our approach is holistic, addressing not only the physical hunger but also the emotional and social needs of each person we encounter. Nourishing hope and helping to rebuild lives”.

In true MONOPOLY style department store Camp Hopson has rolled a double. They not only feature in a prominent section of the board on their very own site – but are also selling the game too!

The store – which has been a mainstay in the heart of Newbury town centre since 1921 – gets to land in the orange section of the board, which because of its proximity to the MONOPOLY jail is the most landed on set during game-play.

A delighted Jo Wakeman, Store Manager of Camp Hopson, says: “We are so thrilled to be part of such an exciting opportunity and journey! With MONOPOLY being such a household name, for Camp Hopson to feature on Newbury’s very own official edition is an absolute honour.”

Over the last 25 years Winning Moves UK has produced official versions of MONOPOLY all over the world, including recently in Phuket and Palm Springs .. as well as Dubai and Dublin. Now the MONOPOLY dice have rolled on Newbury.

The game is now for sale at Camp Hopson, The Entertainer, Ryman, Waterstones, WHSmith and The Works – and extensively available online, including at Booghe.co.uk and Amazon.co.uk
