Benjamin Grosvenor – Piano
British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor is internationally recognised for his electrifying performances, distinctive sound and insightful interpretations. We are honoured that he’s returning to the Festival, where he has become an audience favourite, for this afternoon recital.
Signed to Decca in 2011 – the first British pianist to join the label for almost 60 years – Benjamin has since produced a handful of award-winning recordings of music by Liszt and Chopin that celebrates his dazzling palette of colours, big-boned sound and subtlety of gesture.
This afternoon recital includes two of the greatest piano sonatas of the 19th Century, both in the key of B minor.

“With Benjamin there is no sense of routine or convention, no sense that this is the way it has to be; he is always creative. There is something unalloyed about his playing that comes from his own sense of fantasy, a rare emotional and musical freedom.”
– Sir Mark Elder
